Competent Persons – Health & Safety Support
External Competent Person Support
Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, employers are legally required to appoint one or more competent persons to assist them in complying with their health and safety duties.
Our External Competent Person Support service helps businesses meet this legal requirement by providing access to practical health, safety and fire advice without the cost of employing an in house professional.
Ideal for SMEs and multi site organisations with operational teams needing support and guidance, the service includes access to priority advice, a remote annual review meeting, regulatory and topical updates and discounted consultancy services.
Whether you need reassurance, guidance or a trusted source of competent advice, SHE Does Safety can support your business as it grows.
Agreements can be annual or six monthly, with no multi year tie ins. We want you to stay because the support genuinely helps you.
We work closely with a trusted group of local businesses offering complementary services. If you need support in an area outside our scope, we can recommend reliable providers we know and trust.
Let’s grab a coffee or tea and discuss about how we can best support you and your business.
Health & Safety Reviews
Running a business can mean health and safety slips down the priority list. Every employer must ensure their arrangements are suitable and sufficient. It’s not always easy to know whether your current systems are truly effective, compliant with the latest regulations, or protecting your team in practice. Many small and medium size businesses struggle to step back and objectively assess their own arrangements; when you’re immersed in day?to?day operations, it’s hard to spot the gaps or even know what to look for.
What is included?
Our Health & Safety Reviews give you a clear, independent overview of how your safety management is performing for your business. We take time to understand you and your business — sampling key policies, procedures, risk assessments, and on?site practices to ensure your system is not only documented but genuinely aligned and working as it should.
Our review topics focus on significant hazards and the industry risks your teams face.
HSG65 sets out the recognised framework for doing this using the Plan–Do–Check–Act cycle. Our Health & Safety Reviews are designed to strengthen each stage of that model.
You receive a written report, outlining the current status, observations, and recommended actions.
Most businesses find outsourcing this a financially viable way to access competent health and safety support as they scale and grow. All businesses must ensure they are actively monitoring safety and doing what’s necessary to protect their staff and others. And this is an efficient way of doing just that.
Fire Risk Assessments
Many businesses don’t realise they are legally required to have a Fire Risk Assessment.
Fire risk assessment is critical for protecting people, premises and business continuity. It is far more than a document — it forms the foundation of effective fire safety management and is a legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
At SHE does safety, we carry out clear, practical Intermediate Fire Risk Assessments to PAS 79-1 across Lowestoft, Beccles, Ipswich, Norwich, Thetford, Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Essex and surrounding areas.
What’s Included?
We identify fire hazards within the premises, review existing fire safety arrangements and help ensure important fire safety information, actions and responsibilities are clearly understood and appropriately managed.
You’ll receive a straightforward report with practical recommendations tailored to your premises, helping you:
- protect people
- reduce fire risk
- improve fire safety arrangements
- support compliance with legal responsibilities
- prioritise manageable improvements moving forward
Where additional fire safety support is required, SHE does safety can also help businesses access trusted specialist partners for areas such as fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, extinguisher servicing and remedial fire safety works.
Health & Safety Documentation
Whether you need templates you can start using today or fully bespoke documentation built around your business, we make the process simple, efficient, and genuinely useful.
If you’d like support producing the whole management system, SHE Does Safety can manage the collaboration of your documentation end to end — supporting you to achieve reflective, compliant materials without adding to your workload.
We don’t believe in generic handbooks or one size fits all documents. Everything we produce is tailored to your risks, your operations, and your people. We create in collaboration with you to ensure it actually works on the ground and remains reflective.
Choose from documentation packages, individual templates, or full document reviews with updates — whatever stage you’re at, we’ll help you get your documentation working for you.

Health & Safety Administration Support
Health and safety administration is one of those areas that often slips—not for lack of effort, but simply because there aren’t enough hours in the day when trying to balance operational needs.
SHE does safety can support you with straightforward documentation updates and verification tasks, including SSIP, CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 45001 and similar schemes.
When the admin becomes burdensome or overwhelming, we can step in.
From preparing for health and safety accreditations to meeting tender requirements, we work alongside you to keep everything organised, compliant, and stress?free.
DSEAR Assessments & Support
Many businesses handle flammable liquids, gases, solvents or dusts without realising the serious fire and explosion risks present if not managed accordingly.
The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) require businesses to accurately assess and control these hazards. Getting it right protects your people, and as a byproduct your premises and your business continuity.
We deliver clear, practical DSEAR Assessments with ongoing or follow up support as necessary.
Our lead DSEAR assessor (Richard Morgan a former ‘Her Majesty’s Senior Principal Inspector of Health and Safety’ with the HSE) brings decades of real world experience assessing compliance for the storage, processing and handling of flammable or explosive liquids, gases and dusts with the Manufacturing, utilities, research, universities and service industries including hydrogen plants.
Ad hoc Health, Safety & Fire Advice
Need expert health, safety or fire safety advice for a specific issue or project? Our ad hoc consultancy service provides practical, professional support without the commitment of an ongoing contract.
We can assist with areas such as risk assessments, audits, policy reviews, fire safety, investigations, DSEAR, electrical safety, laboratory safety and general health and safety compliance queries.
Ad hoc consultancy is suitable for organisations that need one-off support, additional expertise or occasional advice. Work is provided on an hourly or project basis and is subject to consultant availability.
Where regular advice, continuity and priority support are required, our Competent Person Service may be more appropriate.

“One of the reasons we’re excited about this collaboration is SHE does safety’s commitment to demystifying health and safety. Their blog breaks down tricky topics into short, helpful insights that encourage better understanding and smarter decision-making. It’s safety management — without the jargon.”
On behalf of Energy Consultancy, Laura has been absolutely brilliant, efficient and informative in our needs across the board in relation to health and safety. Being introduced just a short time ago, she has assisted us with site visits and assistance in all legal compliances and production of documentation. As a company we would highly recommend ‘SHE Does Safety’ services.
“I don’t even know where to start! Since day one, I have found you to be extremely supportive and enjoyable to work with. The way you promptly step in with advice and recommendations is extremely valuable to our operations and greatly appreciated.”
We have had an excellent experience working with Laura at She Does Safety. From the outset, Laura took the time to really listen to our requirements and understand how Elmdale Welding & Engineering Supplies Limited operates. Her approach is friendly, practical, and tailored to our business rather than a one size fits all solution.
Laura has been invaluable in helping us create clear, appropriate risk assessments and ensuring our health and safety arrangements are both compliant and workable. Her knowledge and guidance have given us real confidence that we are meeting our responsibilities properly.
So impressed with the support we’ve received, we have taken the opportunity to appoint Laura as our Competent Person for Health & Safety, which gives us complete reassurance that we have expert advice on hand whenever we need it. We would highly recommend She Does Safety to any business looking for professional, approachable, and effective health and safety support.
“She Does Safety Ltd provides incredibly friendly and helpful advice that supports keeping employees safe in our workplace.
